6/7/14
Kishwaukee River South Branch
DEK12 Gage - 3.00

After a couple days of plans being changed and then at the last minute
being changed again and ended up with the good fortune of having time for
a beautiful drive the the country to meet up with my smallmouthing buddy Jim
in his home town of Sycamore IL. where he would guide me on a float of his
home-water stretch of the Kishweaukee River South Branch.
The Kish flow is much shallower in these parts but not too shallow to where  a boat would bottom-out
all the time, it was shallow throughout compared to the Kish waters I normally fish.
I would say the average depth for the stretch we fished was around 18 inches.
Of cours there were some deeper areas but on average about 18".

The ducks are dumb down in that area, and that's all I'm going to say about that.

It didn't take long to get into fish once we started the float with me snatching the first
from the water on a topwater bait. The 1st. fish taped just shy of 6 inches.
(I didn't really tape it)
The second fish (my biggest of the day) taped at 12 inches.
I ended the day on 6 fish and Jim, with his fly rod, end the day on 5 fish but
did land the fish of the day that taped at 15 1/2 inches.

6/8/14 (south branch, W.C.)

Dweeb Picture of the Year

How dumb is that look on my face?

Went out on a late afternoon float-n-wade of the Kish south branch here in Winnebago Co.
Got the yak off the car and in the water around 3pm. and started paddling my way
up-stream to a few areas that I discovered last year.
I did hit these areas earlier this year back in April with no luck and was looking
foreword to reaching them now during warmer weather.

I started off tossing a topwater bait and was surprised that there was no interest. I had overcast skies and normally that's good for the top bite. Anyhoot, I tied on a tube and got into nice fish right off the rod. Picked up a 17" a 16", two 15's and a few smaller ones. Switched back to a topwater (just because it's more funner) and picked up another 16" and a few smaller ones.
Lost a couple nice ones each on a tube and topwater.
Ended up with 12 smallies for the day on a 4 hour F-n-W.
I'm still having fights with the sun when it comes to taking pictures
but I had a few turnout halfway decent.
I'm really beginning to like and understand the south branch.
Looking foreword to spending more time in the south.

6/11/14
PRY12 - 6.30ft

Stopped down at the crick before work. Water was up, stained and raising.
I picked up two smallmouth and a pike using a green pumpkinseed tube.
Each smallmouth went about 12 inches.
Tough fishing.

RAIN!!!!!

-------------------------------------------------------
6/27 - 6/28
PRY12 - 7.60 / 7.18

The river levels have begun to recede so tried to get back in the swing of things
and made my way down to the creek for a couple hours before work.
SKUNK!

The itch is pretty bad and my arms ache to feel that tug on a line.
Got up early on Saturday morning and made my way back down to the creek again.
SKUNK!

Received more heavy down pours during the over-night hours of 6/26-6/30
That'll take care of the month of June for me.
I sure hope July is kinder.
